Report: 2K Preparing Announcement for BioShock Franchise
[summaraize]
According to information we’ve obtained, 2K is preparing an announcement related to the BioShock franchise. While we don’t know exactly when it will happen, some of the information suggests it will occur fairly soon, most likely before the end of summer.
At this point, we don’t know what the announcement will be about. It could be the reveal of initial details about one of the projects announced several years ago, such as BioShock 4 or the upcoming Netflix movie. Some of the information we’ve come across also seems to suggest another possibility: a remake or a proper remaster of the original BioShock.
BioShock Announcement Incoming From 2K Games Soon
From the information we have gathered, it seems that the city of Rapture will play a significant role in the upcoming announcement. Interestingly, among the details we uncovered are clear references to the original 2007 BioShock, which may suggest that a remaster or remake of this iconic game is underway.
However, it’s also possible that the focus on Rapture and the references to the original game relate to the upcoming film, which might be set in the underwater city—perhaps even with a storyline tied to or based on the events of the first game. Another theory is that BioShock 4 might actually take place in Rapture—despite earlier rumors—and that the references are simply a nod to longtime fans. It could also be 2K’s way of reintroducing the city to new players unfamiliar with the series, even if the new game itself isn’t set there. Many possibilities remain open.
In July last year, we unearthed a slew of what appears to be early screenshots of BioShock 4, though we can’t be certain if those and this announcement are connected.
Last year, we reported that a 2K employee mentioned involvement in an unannounced remake. At the time, we speculated that the original BioShock was one of the titles most likely to receive a remake. Since then, 2K has not announced any new remakes or remasters.
It’s also worth mentioning that in 2021, the NVIDIA GeForce Now leak revealed a project called BioShock RTX Remaster, which has yet to be officially announced.
While a BioShock Remastered was released on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch in 2016, we can imagine if this is another remaster, that it will be one that has a lot more to offer. We’ve seen Bethesda (alongside developer Virtuos) do this with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, where it wasn’t just a visual facelift, but new game mechanics and more were added too.
When it comes to potential announcements, Summer Game Fest is kicking off next month, and while we can’t be certain it will ber revealed there, it’s a major gaming event that where host Geoff Keighley usually has a surprise or two up his sleeve.
