PS4 System Update 12.52

Even if the console is getting by in years, Sony hasn’t forgotten about the PS4. Today, July 9, PS4 system update 12.52 was released, and as one might expect, this isn’t a major update.

The download clocks in at 503 MB, and should be live worldwide. Again, this is a minor firmware update, so don’t expect any new features from it.

PS4 System Version Updates to 12.52

According to Sony, today’s PS4 firmware patch changelog does the following:

  • We’ve made some security fixes to the system software

That’s about it. While this doesn’t bring any front-facing changes, these security fixes are usually connected to the homebrew scene, and plugging any new cracks that have been concocted for the console.

With the PS5 firmware homebrew scene getting a major development update recently, there is a chance that’s connected to this one due to the backward compatibility nature of Sony’s new console. That’s purely conjecture on our end given the timing.

In other PlayStation news, the July Savings promotion is still ongoing, so give it a look if you’re looking for new discounted games. Also of note, just last month, Sony appears to be facing a class action lawsuit in the Netherlands over alleged inflated PSN Store price increases.
